Strokes & Heart Attacks
In some cases, the cause, or a contributory cause of a stroke can be a recoverable claim under workers’ compensation laws. If you or a loved one suffered from a stroke, we may be able to help.
There are two basic types of strokes. One is due to a lack of blood flow to an area of the brain, and the other is a rupture of blood vessels in a specific brain area. Both result in lack of nutrients, especially oxygen, reaching that brain area. In more than 90 percent of cases, stroke is due to the lack of blood flow. Excessive stress at work or a sedentary job may be contributory causes of having a stroke.
A common denominator is high blood pressure, which is directly related to strokes. There is often a direct correlation between work stress and increased blood pressure. Many doctors believe that stress, even without an elevation of blood pressure, adds to arterial dysfunction and inflammation in the arteries, both precursors to stroke.
Suffering from a stroke can be devastating. Many stroke survivors face significant physical, emotional, and mental health disabilities. Furthermore, many survivors are either unable to work or lose earning capacity. Under California workers’ compensation laws, you may be entitled to benefits that can ease some of that hardship. You may be entitled to a lifetime of medical treatment, wage loss, vocational retraining, and permanent disability benefits. Proving a work related stroke injury is complex. We will provide a free consultation to determine whether you may be entitled to benefits.
